What does your sink cabinet look like? Is it so messy that all the cleaning supplies almost fall out when you open it? Or is your sink cabinet neat and organized?
In this article I have 4 handy tips for you to tidy up the kitchen cupboard under the sink. This way you don't have to get annoyed every time you open the cupboard. You can also find the right products much faster.
1. Choose a handy sink organizer
To create more overview in the cabinet under the sink, my most important tip is to choose a handy sink organizer. If you don't do this, all kinds of products will be crisscrossed and it will quickly become a mess.
With a handy sink organizer you keep an overview, you can store more things and it looks a lot tidier.
This handy sink organizer from Clear Living has two layers, so you can store enough stuff in your kitchen cupboard. The drawers are pull-out, so you can reach all the stuff much easier.
This has the advantage that you don't have to kneel down and search for your things in the back of the kitchen cupboard. You will also see that it stays a lot tidier in the sink cupboard.
The Clear Living pull-out sink organizer is not only very handy, but also looks nice. You can therefore also use this cabinet in another place, for example in the bathroom or at your home office.
The sink organizer is 28 cm wide, 42 cm high and 33 cm long. It is smart to measure in advance whether the sink organizer fits in the kitchen cabinet.
In most kitchen cabinets the sink organizer fits fine, but sometimes the drain is just a bit awkwardly placed and is in the way at the height. Here the drain turned out to be half a centimeter too far forward, so the kitchen cabinet cannot close completely.
Now my husband came up with the idea of removing a small piece at the back of the top drawer, so that the door can close. Nine times out of ten when I come up with a DIY idea, the question is 'is this really necessary?', so the fact that my husband comes up with the idea himself shows that he is also very enthusiastic about this sink organizer.
2. Clear out what you no longer use
A handy sink organizer is one thing, but if your sink cabinet is overflowing with items, it will remain messy anyway.
Therefore, clear out the products that you no longer use. During this clearing out round, I was also able to get rid of a number of cleaning products that I no longer used.
I still had two bottles of degreaser. Nowadays I use lemon as a degreaser. It works just as well as chemical agents and is much better for the environment.
I am sure that I can clean up even more stuff during the next clean-up. There are still a few products in there now, such as Glassex and Cif, which my husband uses for cleaning. I have already switched to more sustainable alternatives and I expect that by the time these bottles are almost empty, my husband will also be convinced of these alternatives.
Chances are that you still have a number of products in your kitchen cupboard that you no longer use. Clear these out and the sink cupboard will immediately look neater. Don't want to just throw these products away? Then put them at the front, so that you know for sure that you will use them next time.
3. Go for multifunctional cleaning products
I already mentioned that I am increasingly exchanging chemical cleaning products for sustainable alternatives. This not only has the advantage that it is better for the environment, but your sink cabinet will also be a lot emptier.
With green soap, soda and vinegar you can clean a large part of the house. You usually do not need any special cleaning products for this.
For stubborn stains or special materials I sometimes use special cleaning products, because this works better. But for most household and kitchen jobs I can do just fine with these simple products.
So take a good look in your sink cabinet to see how many bottles you have and consider minimizing your cleaning products by choosing sustainable and multifunctional cleaning products.
4. Organize in a way that works for you
The Clear Living sink organizer is really handy for keeping the sink cabinet tidy, but if you then completely fill the organizer and put everything in a jumble, you will still have trouble keeping the sink cabinet tidy.
Therefore, organize the kitchen cupboard in a way that works for you.
For me, it works to put like with like. On the top drawer I mainly have products for washing up and for daily use, such as dishwashing liquid and dishcloths.
I put the dishwasher tablets in a transparent jar. This not only takes up less space than the standard bag, but also gives me a much better overview of how much stock I still have.
Next to the organizer are a number of larger items such as the watering can and the organic waste bin. The watering can in particular often disappeared all the way to the back of the kitchen cupboard and now it really has a permanent place.
Instead of organizing by type, you could also put the things you use most at the front. That way, you can always get to them easily. This is especially handy if you don't have an organizer with pull-out drawers.
About Clear Living
Clear Living sells beautiful items that help you experience more peace in your home. With the handy sink organizer and kitchen organizers you create more space and overview.
The organizers also look nice, so you can place them on the countertop or another place in the house in sight. The organizers fit perfectly in an industrial or modern interior, for example.
The organizers are also multifunctional. Instead of in the kitchen, you can also use them in the bathroom, a creative space or in the office.
I also have a Clear Living organizer in the pantry, which holds our dog Jackie's things. These things used to be in a large basket and it was always a search when we needed something for her. The overview was missing.
Thanks to the handy organizer from Clear Living, we can always find the right stuff right away. Extra handy: we can now also see directly how much stock we still have and when we need to order something.
Is your sink cabinet neatly organized or one big mess?
